In ALIVE photographer and experimenter ELA KUROWSKA explores the elemental properties of life; its ability to self-organize and arise from amorphous organic matter. She combines photography with science, sculpture and installation building small, biomorphic structures from soft, translucent, solidified gels. By utilizing gel's ability to glow when subjected to deformations, then viewing it in cross-polarized light she captures photographically the moment when pale, inanimate organic shapes transform into images of otherworldly "Light Forms".

Ela's images of fantastic, biomorphic forms reveal the universal cosmic aspects of life. The colourful, shimmering structures suspended in empty space look like snapshots of alien life from a remote corner of the universe, or may resemble something more familiar like a specimen observed under a microscope, or an unknown organism encountered in the murky depths of the ocean.

To create her works Ela collaborates with the forces of nature, allowing deformations to propagate through gel material then searching for the perfect lighting and camera angle to capture her objects in their full glory. The resulting images unveil the visual characteristics of life; its gracefulness, fluidity, symmetry, radiance and breathtaking beauty.
